Gene was a member of the 2/9th FA in Hawaii who completed his service obligation in September, 1965, shortly before the 3rd Brigade of the 25th Inf Division was given the "Blue Light" order to deploy to Vietnam Central Highlands. Consequently, many of his close friends and buddies got deployed. He shares with us the memories of his comrades who were sent over.
On 1Aug67, our brigade was swapped with the 4th Inf Div; consequently, many of our redleg brothers never knew or realized that our 2/9th FA battalion originated in Hawaii.
