At Left: Me and FO Lt Joe Hannigan from Philly, PA with both hands on hips. This may be the Christmas standown at LZ Lois in 1969. The next day, we were back in the bush.

DP8a.JPGR-Sopping again196 viewsSpring, 1968. Moving again, from LZ Baldy to the south of LZ English, by convoy. Time here had been hectic. Not only were we shelled frequently during the TET offensive, but so were the field units. We frequently fired illumination rds all night. Viet Army compound at Hoi An was overrun by the NVA, but was saved by our all-night pinpoint shelling.

Dixon40.jpg"Moonraker"196 viewsWe owed a lot to these boys! "Moonraker" (long before the James Bond film of the same name) was a deuce and a half truck, fully armored and equipped with both 50 caliber and M-60 machine guns. They brought SMOKE if anyone dared cause trouble for us out there on the road! They ran protection for us all along the way to Bong-Son and elswhere. Brave guys.

Dixon54.jpg196 viewsHere is what kind of damage a communist 122mm rocket could do in the hands of a VC. This building in Saigon was hit during the Tet Offensive and so was I... but that's another story.

Slide113.jpgTaking the high ground196 viewsNothing like taking the high ground and getting a commanding view of the horizon. Probably one of the better firebases for locating direct support artillery. Won't have to worry about firing "high angle" missions, either.

DP9a.JPGBn CO LTC Jerry Bobzien, 2/9th195 viewsSpring, 1968. LZ English was just outside Bong Son, to the south of Duc Pho where we had been months before. We stayed here only about a month. The base, fortunately, had been occupied, so it was already built for us. Our FDC bunker is behind the sign.
