Not_Sure.JPGLikely taken around Sept/Oct, 1969.101 viewsNot sure where or when. Probably Sept/Oct '69. Getting ready to go out again (since I am wearing the flack jacket must be lifers in the background). Can't make out the folks behind me.

LZ_Tuffy_-_Civilized.JPGLZ Tuffy - 1970101 views{continued from previous slide} From memory, both the 101st and 1st CAV had previously inhabited the LZ and both had the same problem we did exiting based on the evidence of Arc Light strikes and downed chopper husks in the jungle below the LZ. Like an idiot I decided I needed a break and chose to go out on the last chopper for a change instead of the usual Advance Party. So I got to party with the gun the dinks couldn't see from the ridgeline and didn't know was there when they opened up on the Chinook carrying Pineapple's crew and gun.

LZ_Lois_-_DJ_and_Starlets.JPGLZ Lois - Christmas, 1969101 views"Cruit", center of photo, always wore his airborne wings. Came to the battery from the infantry as a gun bunny, wanted to be FDC and we were getting really short so he came onboard. I captioned this on the slide as "Cruit finds a girl his own size". No matter how much we picked on him, Cruit was always smiling and happy-go-lucky.

Note the "hippie" headband and long, straight hair on the chick. Boy, we didn't know what was waiting down the road for us, eh?

On_the_road_Christmas.JPGRoad beggars101 viewsWe took along a bunch of those tropical chocolate bars and threw them out to the begging kids along the road. What intrigues me about this photo is that, as we went over a hill, I looked back and saw the kids pulling down the flag. That says a lot.

More_on_the_road.JPGUp Yours!101 viewsDespite our attempt at humanitarian aid and civil affairs, I think we were actually recruiters for the VC since the kids started yelling "GI fucking 10" and hurling them back at us. Maybe it was the stale chocolate. Could have gotten seriously injured since those things were hard-solid and could have been used as the heat shield on the Apollo moon missions.

David_Jacobs.jpg101 viewsSp4 David Jacobs, with towel, was the switchboard operator. Mark Charters is reading a book over to the right. The one on the upper bunk is UNK. This area was the common hut. Jesse White slept here also. Anyone know the unknown soldier?
