Jerry_Chastian.jpgTypical Motor Pool129 viewsNot sure if Sp4 Jerry Chastian went over on Operation Blue Light or not. Jerry was from Evansville, IN. He is the classic motor pool guy...hat kicked back, cigar, and cuppa coffee. Note the red arrow pointing to the 2/9th Arty emblem used on its assigned vehicles as well as the OD fatigues we wore back in 1965.

JCook12.jpgTriple-Dipple129 viewsHere is a CH-47 lifting a water buffalo and three (not two) brass casing Packs. We had a miscommunication -- and the pilot thought he had two casing Packs. So he dragged the bottom pack through our Battery and we lucky no damage to us or to him.

JCook30.JPGBase Piece - May 1966129 viewsJoe notes to family back home: "These guys are members of the Base Piece Section; we do most of the firing. On all adjustment missions, we fire the BP. It is set over Battery Center. 10,000 rounds shot in Vietnam. This round (foreground) was shot at a suspected VC campsite. The whole battery fired it".

Arr-6.jpgThe Waldman Collection - We Arrive129 viewsIt was nice to see the family members of our fellow veterans arrive and participate. There were several activities planned for them off post. Most of our redleg brothers trained here back in the 60s, so there was a lot of "remembrances" to be had.

He ended up with the 4/42d, as an RTO in an FO Party and sent to the field with the infantry. While serving with the infantry, Jessie got good at putting 105mm rounds in the back pocket of the VC. Later, the 4/42d Lt. Col. commander found out that Jessie was just a E3. He made Jessie an E5 right there in the field.
